Luzon Bleeding-Heart Dove

Scientific Name: Gallicolumba Luzonica

The Luzon bleeding-heart is a secretive dove that is named for the red spot on its breast, which resembles a bleeding wound. As its common name suggests, they inhabit the island of Luzon in the Philippines, as well as two neighbouring islands.

The Luzon bleeding-heart feeds on the ground, eating a variety of seeds, fruits and invertebrates.

Currently, the Luzon Bleeding-heart is listed as Near-Threatened by the IUCN. This is due to the species being threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation through deforestation for timber extraction and agricultural lands.
