Cockatiel

Scientific Name: Nymphicus Hollandicus

A member of the cockatoo family, the Cockatiel is endemic to Australia. They favour the Australian wetlands, scrub lands and bush lands. It is the only member of the genus 'Nymphicus'.

They live for a span of about 16 to 25 years. Their diet consists of mostly fruits and vegetables as well as pellets and seeds. The males are known to be more musical, whistling for prolonged periods of time, whereas the females remain fairly quiet and screech only when provoked.

They are great parents to their young. The females lay and hatch the eggs and the males get quite protective of their family.
