African love birds

Scientific Name: Agapornis

There are 9 species of lovebird. 8 are native to Africa and one type is native to Madagascar. They live in small flocks and their diet mainly consists of fruit, vegetables, grasses and seeds. Some species even feast on small insects and figs.

They are very popular pets and develop a long-lasting relationship with their humans. They have a lifespan of about 10 to 15 years.

The males and females display distinct characteristics. The males take it upon themselves to feed the females and the females generally stay close to their nests, guarding their young.
